BLACK FRIDAY 2023 MANIFESTO
Honestly, we believe that things don't have to be black or white, against or in favor. Sometimes, we judge, radicalize, or condemn things without taking a moment to reflect, without putting ourselves in the shoes of all parties. Remember that life is full of nuances, and fashion, too 🤗
Here is our sincere view in the form of a manifesto:
I. BLACK FRIDAY, THE CONSUMER, AND THE BIG PRIVILEGE
Did you know that those who buy the most on Black Friday are moms, people with low purchasing power, and certain minorities?
Black Friday doesn't have to mean an irresponsible act of purchase, but it can be an opportunity for thoughtful and studied buying, especially for those who cannot afford to buy at regular prices.
For us, this is super important: THE ACT OF RESPONSIBILITY AND CONSCIOUSNESS SHOULD BE DONE BY THOSE WHO PRECISELY HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF CHOOSING WHETHER TO BUY WITH A DISCOUNT OR NOT, just as one has the privilege (or not) of being able to buy sustainable fashion.
If you are privileged, buy without a discount, and you will contribute a lot to projects like ours. But if you are not, buy with a discount (and don't feel bad).
II. BLACK FRIDAY AND THE BRANDS
Buying with a discount does not necessarily devalue the work of the people behind it. On the contrary, we see it differently: it can be an opportunity to expand the reach of their work and reach a more diverse audience.
For brands like ours, offering that discount sacrifices our profit significantly. A profit that is necessary to grow, continue, and improve.
But losing a large part of that profit becomes another benefit: democratizing the consumption of sustainable products that, in most cases, are a luxury.
Perhaps we should stop demonizing brands and projects that make a great effort to satisfy those who need that discount and are also working daily to do things right.
III. BLACK FRIDAY AND CONSCIOUSNESS
Buying from sustainable brands always adds a lot of value, even on Black Friday. With this, you support companies and projects that contribute to local commerce and have a positive impact on society.
In addition, needing, buying, or wanting things is okay (and with a discount or on sale, too!). The problem is not the brands or consumers who need or buy with that discount, but a system that criminalizes those who shouldn't be, losing focus on the real problem.
This could be a day that invites reflection and questioning of a consumption that, in itself, is not bad (it would be bad, for example, when in the context of Black Friday, we are deceived with pricing tricks...).
The question is that we consume wisely and where we add more value.
IV. BLACK FRIDAY AND LABIENHECHA
That we participate in this event does not change our essence, our values, or our way of being.
Honestly: we think it is always better to buy from the small, the local, the artisan, and, in short, to buy well. Because since we do it, and given the choice, it's better if every euro we move stays here, generating local employment and activating our economy (the cleanest one).
We know that buying well is not always easy because, as we said, sustainable fashion is a luxury for most. That's why we commit to doing everything possible to make it reach more and more people.
The mission? Spread the word about sustainability, regardless of whether that sustainability has a discount or not.
